What To Expect

Mercado Central
We recommend to start this morning without having any breakfast. Your tour guide will pick you up at 10h00 to start an exciting adventure in the old town. While he explain you all about the history of Ecuador and Quito, the Inca Empire, the Spanish invasion and finally the independence and the republican period, you'll have the opportunity to discover new flavours! We drive first to visit a local market, well-known as Mercado Central, where we can try different exotic tropical fruits and local specialties from the Sierra region!

60 minutes • Admission Ticket Free

Plaza de la Independencia (Plaza Grande)
During our walk, we will pass through the Independence Square, scenery of many dramatic battles of revolution in the history of the Republic of Ecuador; here you'll have the privilege to try different types of traditional salty and sweet pastries. We will have the privilege to see the Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace, the Church of the Sacred Society of Jesus of Quito, summit of the Latin American Baroque Style.

60 minutes • Admission Ticket Free

Calle La Ronda
Then we continue with the charming neighbourhood of La Ronda, where it will be possible to do a chocolate tasting, and finally the Convent of San Francisco, built in 1540.

30 minutes • Admission Ticket Free

El Panecillo
Then you'll have the opportunity to drive, uphill way, to visit the top of "El Panecillo", where the winged Virgin Mary of Quito is located, and it is considered the tallest aluminium statue of the world. Then, enjoying a tasty traditional home-made cocktail known as "canelazo", you will have an incredible view of the old town, new town and south of Quito; including the amazing snow-capped volcanoes: Cotopaxi (19.350 f), Antisana (18.874 f) and Cayambe (18.996 f). We will be back in your hotel approximately at 14h00. End of our authentic and delicious city tour!

Combined old town and food tasing tour.

If you want a combination of an old town tour plus trying of local food, this is for you. Eduado picked us up from the hotel on time. Due to Quito traffic it took over half an hour to get to the large central market but worth the trip. Lots of stalls of fruit/ veg/ meat/flowers etc and hawker bar style eateries to learn about. Eduado’s English is good. Keep asking questions and he knew most of the answers. By 11am we were eating pulled pork/ crackling and unusual fruit smoothies. It would have been nice to have been given the option of having a fish dish instead. If you wanted to try different fruit, he will buy you a sample to try. Then off to Pancillo to see the city and enormous statue of the Apocalyptic Virgin Mary ( taller than Christ the Redeemer.) After, we went down into old town to walk the La Ronda, for a canelazo, and Grande Plaza with a highlight of the Golden Society of Jesus Church ( wow!) Eduado gave us lots of information throughout and time to pop into interesting shops ( eg bought a wooden spinning top and popped into the fabulous Cacao factory shop off the grand plaza.) While walking back to the car there was a huge deluge so we stopped for a small empanada to try as we’d expressed an interest… whole trip took 5 hours.
Wonderful Private Tour of Quito

This was such a wonderful way to see the city starting at the viewpoint then going to the market and trying various local fruits as well as local food. We then went to the Old Town and sampled more food and saw the beauty of the area. Carlos was a wealth of knowledge and was an incredible guide for the day. Highly recommend this tour!
Fantastic tour and Guide

Luis was a fantastic guide and the tour was a balance of the Old city history, culture and architecture and food markets where we tasted fresh treats and watched the locals going about their everyday life.
Great introduction to Quito.
What Food Tour?
SoloTraveler0011, 12-12-2021
I am happy that they were able to accommodate me as I was a solo person on the tour, but it was not much of a food tasting experience as expected. I have been many places overseas and when there is a food tasting experience, everywhere you go, they have something to try. Unfortunately, the only time I tried something was during 'breakfast' and I am allergic to fruit, made this known, and that was still the bulk of it. I did get to try a good breakfast dish, but the rest of the tour was a fast run around old town to 2 squares and a couple of other places I asked about and we by-passed pretty quickly. I had to literally ASK for food (lunch) because I was so hungry. Nothing else was offered for food and it was not the best interaction with the guide, not that he was not friendly, but just not very engaging. Never went to La Ronda or Fotch which are known for food. I went on a tour after this one (same night) and told them I missed a lot, so they actually accommodated me and did their tour PLUS added the items this tour should have covered. I got to really enjoy and experience then. Maybe they should ask what you are interested in prior to the tour so they can cultivate a better itinerary and actually include food! By the way, when I asked for lunch, the guide said ok I'll give 45 mins and showed up in 15 rushing me.
