Enjoyed the day with Daniel

Daniel was a very good host, driver, interpreter and translator. Plus he can customize your experience to whatever you want. I was on my own, but felt very safe venturing out with just him on the two hour drive to the Otavalo Indigenous market, with stops along the way. I enjoyed hearing his perspective on how Ecuadorians and their folklore identify so much with volcanos, plus seeing all the rose vendors along the way. Come to think of it, visiting a rose greenhouse would have been fun – and who knew there were going to be so many beautiful carved doors along the way! But the Indigenous craft market was my target for the day. The market wasn’t as fabulous as I had hoped (but that’s not Daniel’s fault). Many vendors have very similar wares. But, if you’re after beautifully made handwoven textiles (blankets, table cloths, totes, ponchos) for about $20 (!!!) then there are a lot of colours/patterns to choose from and Daniel can help negotiate prices (he’s very patient). If you’re shopping for small inexpensive trinkets to bring a souvenir home to the kids, that will fit in your suitcase, well, there’s lots. If you want higher end artisan craft like carvings, masks, pottery, tapestries, metalwork or jewelry you are better off checking out the artisan/craft galleries in Quito's New Town. Overall I really enjoyed my day with Daniel.
Exceptional tour guide.

In all our travels, Daniel is undoubtedly the best tour guide we have ever had. He picked us up at our hotel, drove us two hours to our resort. He picked us up again to bring us to our hotel in Quito. After our Galapagos portion of the trip, he then did our booked tour to the real Equator, to Otavalo, then to the airport. En route to Otavalo, he also brought us to a nearby volcano picnic area, and provided us with a breakfast of his homemade cheese and bread and other homemade treats, as well as a flask with a hot drink. He was completely reliable, punctual, and so knowledgeable about Ecuador and its people, geography, culture, history, and politics. On top of all that, he and his mother made us a local drink, the colada morada. He also had bought for us local chocolate and little gifts from the indigenous people. He helped us negotiate in the craft market with the local people to get good prices. He was a real friend to us. You will not find a better guide.
Excellent experience with Daniel as our guide

Excellent bargain.

Negotiate of course

Covered if it rains.

Friendly but not overly pushy vendors.

Need to watch for pickpockets.

Can buy local coffee and tea.

Alpaca and Ecuador good abound.

Not overly crowded on Friday

Will share their love of soccer if important game going on.
Great day!

What a fun day. Daniel is a superb guide. He went out of his way to show us what we wanted to see and what he thought was important to see. Great restaurant for lunch. Stopped on the way to have a local snack and he brought a thermos of coffee he made at home! What a guy! Shopping was very fun. Beautiful jewelry and other handcrafted items. Great day!!
