Overview

This is not the typical horseback riding experience with tired horses neither exploted animals. This is the only experience that takes place inside the national park. Getting to the base camp is the most beautiful and challenging thing you will ever do.

What To Expect

Cotopaxi Volcano

Our horseback riding takes place at The Cotopaxi N.P is located inside a súper Volcano called Chalupas.

We will start from your accommodation placement if it's only you the only participant otherwise we Will set up a meeting point according to all participants locations.

We start at 7 or 8 am depending on weather conditions or week day. We will departure in south direction passing by the ✔️AVENUE OF THE VOLCANOES. After one hour we would already enter to the National Park where we plan to stop by ✔️ AGUA LONGO spot to see the prints left by the last Volcanic activity.

Then we will pass by ✔️LIMPIOPUNGO lake that is a glaciars origin lake. Then we Will pass by the ✔️STONES VALLEY where a huge amount of small and big rocks show the powerful of the volvanic activity caused ✔️COTOPAXI. Then our horses will be waiting for us. Hopefully we will see wild horses during the riding. Then we Will take the car to the 4700 meters to start a 1 hour hiking to the Shelter.

Laguna de Limpiopungo

Beautiful lagoon inside the Cotopaxi National park which is origined by the water streams coming down from one of the other volcanoes inside this National park. Home of some birds as the Andean gulls and cara caras.

Great tour! The location is fantastic, and the horse riding feels magical. The tour is structured in small groups, so there is a chance to meet and get to know cool people. Recommended.

Jorge was an incredible tour guide and host during our visit to Cotopaxi. He was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and friendly throughout the entire experience - from pick up to drop off. It was a full day of once-in-a-lifetime activities: horseback riding through the National park, and hiking up the volcano for some well deserved hot chocolate or tea. If you’re thinking about visiting Cotopaxi, this is the right way to do it.

I did this tour with Jorge in late November, 2022 and it was an incredible, one of a kind experience. Even with zero horseback riding experience the ride through the park was awesome and almost meditative being in the unique nature of Cotopaxi surrounded by volcanoes and open meadows. The hike itself wasn't too difficult and Jorge was conscious of making sure it was a smooth experience the whole way. Highly recommend doing Cotopaxi this way if you decided you want to head out there.

Jorge provided an amazing tour of Cotopaxi. He was very knowledgeable of the area. He took us to amazing view points and was very helpful on the hike to Cotopaxi basecamp. The horses back ride is a must do activity! Would recommend booking Jorge for your visit to Cotopaxi

Our day with Jorge was an experience I'll never forget. Jorge had everything organized for our trip, so the whole day ran very smoothly. He was easy to talk to and told us many interesting things about Ecuador. I really loved that the horses we rode were wild and well cared for. One special bonus that I wasn't expecting was that Jorge took photos and videos of us during the whole excursion! That was perfect because I was too exhausted walking to the refuge to even think about taking a picture. The hike was really hard for me, but Jorge was so reassuring and had such a positive energy - he inspired me to keep going! My husband and I had such an amazing time with Jorge, and this is an experience you NEED to do while in Ecuador!
