Overview

Andres (the owner) will meet you at your hotel, if your hotel is close to the market we will walk there, if not we will take my comfy SUV. Andres will first take you for a tour in the traditional Central Market and surroundings to hunt for fresh local products that you will use during your cooking class. Then you will head to the restaurant which is located in a beautiful Colonial house in the heart of Old Town Quito. During this tour, you will experience life as a local and will learn how to make 3 traditional dishes with a gourmet twist, which you can replicate back home. Get ready for a packed day filled with incredible sights, tastes, and smells. And at the end of it all, you will be able to enjoy the delicious meal you cooked. Highly recommended experience!

We had a lot of fun, cooking, talking, and tasting traditional typical food. They provide information on which ingredients you should use in case you do not find some of them in your country.

Ecuadorian Food

We have done food tours and cooking classes all over the world. This was a delightful and homey experience. Andres arrived at our hotel right on time and we immediately proceeded to one of Quitos covered markets. We sampled lots of interesting Ecuadorian fruits and vegetables and gained a tremendous amount of knowledge. Our Chef and sous chef welcomed us to the tiny custom built kitchen. Immediately we were peeling and chopping. Our luncheon consisted of a beautiful potato soup (including cheese), a salad of red onions, tomatoes, and lime juice, plantains fried then smashed in a unique wooden instrument, followed by lightly frying again. Served with a touch of salt, the salad, and a piquant sauce it was difficult to stop at three or four! Delicious fresh prawns were sautéed, removed from pan, and onion steamed in the remaining liquid before making a cream sauce to which the prawns were added and simmered for about 30 seconds before being served with rice. Desert was a chocolate sauce beside about seven local fruits. Andres and our two chefs left us feeling as though we could (and would) prepare these dishes at home. True home hospitality.

Amazing market tour/cooking tour - delicious!

Our family of 4 (older teens) had a GREAT time touring the market with Andres and cooking with Karen! Andres is knowledgeable about the local fruits, veggies, herbs, meat, fish and chocolate and we all enjoyed the tastes and smells along the way. Karen gave terrific instructions when needed and gave us space to work - the perfect balance. We thoroughly enjoyed our mid-day meal, and the local style and flavors!

I cannot recommend this tour enough - it was fabulous!
