Overview

After your pick up at your hotel, you will be taken south down the Panamericana Highway. Your biking tour will take place in the Cotopaxi National Park, named after one of the highest active volcanoes on earth, which at just over 19.000 feet, is one of the most stunning sights in Ecuador. You will bike next to Cotopaxi’s base on dirt roads surrounded by an other-worldly landscape dotted by rocks strew about by the volcano during its last major eruption. The ride is about 16 miles, and mostly on a flat easy terrain ideal for novice bikers. Lunch is included in this program. Explore the Cotopaxi volcano with our biking tour!

Excellent all around

We booked a private hiking and biking tour because it was our last day after a long trip and we wanted to have more control over what we did. Our guide was Adrian, who was fantastic. He was kind, friendly, and we had great conversation. He had a lot of interesting information and overall was an excellent resource.

We arrived to the park and made our way up to the parking lot. The wind was unexpected for me so we bundled up. It took us an hour to ascend to the refuge, but Adrian was patient. We were definitely pathetic, stopping every 2 minutes to sit or even lay down! He waited for us and gave us advice about how to make it up. Once at the top we took a nice rest and had some tea and cocoa.

The way down was just 5-10 minutes and we were so tired there was no way we were going to use the bikes. Plus, the roads were so bad that I can't imagine how difficult it would have been to do that anyways. It was Christmas eve so we decided to leave early. Drive back was smooth and overall it was a great experience. It was extremely difficult, nothing I read prepared me for that, but we were lucky to get a lot of breaks in the clouds to see the beautiful volcano!
Aanrader!

Loved it!
