What To Expect

Quito
The adventure starts departing from south east from the Quito city. After several minutes of traveling we reach out a small neighborhood that contrasts with the big city since it is a quiet place where people get income from small businesses and agriculture. Continue driving in the middle of the parish town to access in a sinuous sandy road. See green pasturlands, burley fields, livestock and Andean Cowboys that begins their work day.

Antisana Ecological Reserve
Watch the Andean Condor in its natural state from the viewpoint that is located on the upper part of the cliff. Observe a great Andean scenery during the short journey until you arrive in the lagoon entrance. Some wildlife could be spotted on the distance by the road. Start the walk along the trails near the lagoon to observe from the top the entire extension of the lacustrine complex, if the weather allows it you can see the majestic Antisana Volcano.

4 hours • Admission Ticket Included

Volcan Antisana
One of the colossus of Ecuador can be observed and photographed from the top of the lagoon viewpoint as long as the dense clouds of the eastern andean mountain range allow it. The volcano tops out 18,713 feet high and the last eruptive process occurred between 1590 to 1600.

20 minutes • Admission Ticket Free

On the way back, we can take a break to have lunch at Tambo Condor. This place has a viewpoint from where you can see the Andean Condor's nest. At least 3 and 5 Condors can be seen from here. Also, there are feeders which are frequently visited by different species of hummingbirds such as the Shining Sunbeam, Giant Hummingbird or rarely the place is visited by the Black Tailed Trainbearer. After this, we will return to Quito city.

Reviews

Very interesting history and fauna of Antisana
daanvandenrboek, 13-11-2022
The Antisana Tour we booked was really worth it! We had excellent guides (Eduardo and Marcello) that did their best to show us all the flora, fauna and history of the Antisana region. We saw the Andean Condor, amazing views of the highlands and got a lot of information about the history of the region and the travels of the German explorer and biologist Alexander von Humboldt.
Excellent day trip from Quito

I had a great trip to Antisana Reserve with Eduardo. He has so much information about Quito and Ecuador, and about the flora and fauna of the reserve. The hike wasn't crowded, the landscape was beautiful, and the food at the place we stopped for lunch was fantastic. Definitely recommend!
Fun despite being sick
AnneMarie_N, 13-07-2021
It's too bad I was sick during this trip, because it was a little gem. Bring binoculars and enjoy the sight of condors flying over the hills. We also stopped at a small cafe and enjoyed their birds (hummingbirds and others.) We even took a short hike (I was too sick for the long one.) Quick note: dress warmly- including a warm hat, so you can withstand the cold while getting your fill of condor viewing.
